Title: The Skylark's Discovery (To Jami, With Love)
Prompt: Solidarity, Sister
Word Count: 128 (26 lines)

A/N: The prompt isn't evident in the poem. It's a shout-out to Jess, for whom this poem was written. I don't care to explain any more than that, but trust that I felt solidarity when I wrote this theme.

The Skylark's Discovery (To Jami, With Love)

If the tiniest little skylark flew

To the Ocean every single year

And swallowed one –

just one –

Single drop of water –

When he'd drunk all the water in the world,

That would be the end of eternity.

Last night I painted an elaborate dream:

Stroke by stroke, you and I

Swam into the Gulf of Mexico –

so far out

That there was nothing but the waves,

And your laugh, and your wet, floppy hair.

We clutched each other and sank,

            deep, deep, deeper,

Until we --

If the tiniest little skylark flew

To the Ocean every single year,

He'd spit up his water with shock

to see us swimming.

Instead of drowning, we grew

            gills and fins,

And outsmarted the end of eternity;

Atlantis! – that was our doing.
